No Greater Love

I grew up during the “love” era of the 1960s and 70s when shows like “The Love Boat” and “Love American Style” were hits.  Sadly to say, these shows were just the beginning of a cultural shift toward a very self-centered and shallow understanding of love.  Over the past forty years T.V. shows, movies, novels, and magazines have only further destroyed the meaning of real love.   For most of the world, love has lost its true meaning.

To truly love is to willingly sacrifice oneself for another.  Before God, love is a commitment. God gave us the greatest example of love when He gave His only Son (John 3:16).  Christ also commented that there is no greater love then when you choose to give up your life for another.

While there is much historical debate on the true origin of Valentine’s Day, it has become a day where many celebrate the “loves” of their lives.  As Christians, we have been given the greatest love gift known to man and now have the opportunity to live that love out for the world to see.  The love we have been given in Christ is the love the world needs to see and get to know.

“By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35).

Two videos that touch on the real meaning of love.
